Not again!

I am so sorry for another one of these threads but I am looking to built a new PC for myself. I have searched and read lots of other threads on this site to try and work it out myself without having to resort to the "ive $xxxx whats best" kind of thread. The below information is by no means anything i have came up with but more what you guys have said in other threads but I just don�t know if it will all go together.

I will be the first to admit that I am totally lost when it comes to some of this stuff.

I have decided to go for the
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Part Number: ADA3200BPBOX which i am hoping to OC

I have also seen what appears to be the same processor but Part Number: ADA3200BIBOX. Can anyone tell me the difference?

Then I was thinking about DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard which seams to be the flavor of the month.

RAM? I am from the UK so my only real option would be Kingston or Corsair. I have read all the threads talking about which one so that�s not what I am asking. What are all the numbers about when it comes to choosing RAM? I haven�t a clue what to look for!

Good choices on the CPU and mobo. I wouldnt change those. You might want go with a CPU cooler other than the stock one if you are going to OC (even though Venices run super cool, even when OC'd).

For RAM, All of the numbers that you are probably getting confused about are latencies. The more commonly compared latency is the CAS latency. A good CL is 2.0. Usually when you get more expensive overclocking memory, the latencies are all pretty low, but will get worse as the RAM gets overclocked.

BTW, its nice to see someone so polite asking for advice on a system, and actually doing their homework beforehand.

It depends on how much money you have, but if you can get your hands on a 3700+, then you will enjoy it, but it is $350 USD...

I like your choice, but if you plan on attending LAN Parties, the extra's with the non UT version, are well worth it...

IF your only chocie for ram is corsair then iwould prolly suggest corsair TwinX XMS 1gb(2x 512) pc3200 dual channel. thast of course that site has some. im sure they do.

Good choices, but I will say this...if you plan to overclock your socket 939, you might want to go with the 3000+. Its overclocking results are phenomenal and it overclocks just as well as the 3500+ (with slight increases in voltage). From the sounds of it, the Venice core will be able to out-overclock the 3500.

They all come in Venice cores don't they? I've looked up some stuff, and I know that the 3000+ comes with Venice core. I was just saying that if you are going to overclock, there may be cheaper processors out there that do just as well, if not better.

What kind of coller do you recomend for this MOBO/CPU combo. I only ask as I have read in here somewhere about soem coolers hitting bits of some MOBO's. As I live in the UK my choises may be limited. This one is supposed to be excellent, and I havent heard of any probs with the DFI board. The only problem with this cooler is that it is super heavy, which means you cant really set your case down really hard.

At the time of posting that, I didnt realize that the Venice core was released on more than the 3200.
