Unhappy Soundcard

I unfortunately have an emachine. I tried to install a new/improved soundcard but it didn't have none of it. Even when I disabled the onboard soundcard via cmos, it still doesn't work. Basically when I plug in the new soundcard, it freezes. I take it out, it works. But now I can't get the onboard sound card to work. Anyone know what might be up with it?

Its an e-machine. Use it as a foot rest or a door stopper.

When you say cmos, I am assuming you mean BIOS. The reason I am correcting you is because you should be able to clear the cmos and at least get the onboard back working. You basically just set some jumpers and take the battery out for a bit, but google instructions for your particular mobo.
