Symptoms of a broken power regulator?

Compaq Deskpro 2000 5166MMX

I don't really know what the problem is. That was just a theory.

Symptoms:
1. No display (even the Compaq start-up logo)
2. Power and hard disk LEDs don't stop blinking simultaneously when the CPU is turned on.
3. The CPU worked fine 9 months ago with the absolutely the same configurations as when those problems occured.

Could be a couple things.

Could be a corrupt BIOS/Mobo. Might be the PSU, bad processor. Whatever it is, its hardware.

how about a dead CMOS battery? could it be?

A system would still boot with a dead cmos battery..

Your system appears to be like 10 years old, electronics dont live forever. It's not worthwhile to even bother fixing it. Go and pick up an athlon system (mb/proc/ram) for 100$.. You can find some good deals on www.pricewatch.com

Exactly it's not worth it to repair any part of that PC

yeah its about 10 years old. i havent opened it for about 9 months until yesterday. im just planning to save my hard disk and transfer it into my other PC.
