So i'm going to try my hand at OCing. Preferably reaqlly hardcore too. My buddy and I are going to both throw in on this machine, so money isnt TOO much of an issue.

What would be a good build that would be excellent for OC'ing? I know certain parts OC better than others.

You think an AMD x64 would be best? Need a good card to OC too. This isnt going to be a gaming machine or an appz machine or anything particular, except it is for OCing. So nasty components are needed. Any and all ideas are more than welcome.

DFI Lanparty nf4
G.SKill LAs or OCZ Rev2s
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice or 3200+ Venice
OCZ Powerstream 600watts

The Venices are the best overclocking cores on the market now, period. The 3000+ and 3200+ have always been reputable for monster overclocking, and the Venice has simply raised that bar. With the right cooling, I have seen them easily gaining 1GHz (which is huge for an AMD) with more than acceptable temperatures and relatively little vcore.

Samsung TCCD memory is a must, I personally like G.Skill and OCZ outta all the TCCD just from what I've read and it seems they're the ones getting a lot of the records and getting the ridiculous frequencies.

The DFI Lanparty is no question, you won't find anything better than it. Any and all record breaking 939 clock speeds have been made on these boards, and the options are a dream come true for any enthusiast. Especially when it comes to DIMM voltage, TCCD RAM loves to suck up voltage, the more you can give it the better, and this board does not have a relatively low cap compared to others.

The Powerstream, OCZ makes the best PSUs in my opinion, and the powerstream is the best you'll get from them. It's crucial to make sure your parts are getting the proper voltage they need and powerstream has rock solid rails, plus you can actually adjust the rails if you need more or less power.

It's true that XFX cards have set a few records, but they've had a lot of bad stuff that hasn't really been played around as much. From the eVGA cards I've installed I've recieved no problems from any of them, eVGA has great support, and everyone here basically agrees with that.

As for cooling, it comes down to preference. You've said you have no limit to what to can spend so I really don't know what you're looking towards. Since the Venice cores do have a cold bug and you really don't need subthermal temperatures, I'd say build yourself a nice watercooling setup for your CPU and GPU.

Yeah defiantly the DFI with a good PS (ocz, thermaltake) with samsung TCCD (OCZ or G. SKill) are musts, as well as a 3200+ or 3500+ (venice)

And pff to you guys recomending him air cooling, if this is an OC'ing machinne get water cooling at the least, if not peltiers, phase change or nitrogen.

well , it's been mentioned already:

amd 64 venice (you should wait to see which speeds OC the best on xtremesystem first before order??, dunno)
dfi lanparty ultra-d
G skill LA's
WD 3xgig 10k raptor

those things shouldn't be that expensive

for gfx card, just get something cheap like the 6200 series

also, if you're going to OC, you're gonna need at least water cooling; using the zalman fan would help you in OCIng, but not as much as water and that's what you need for ocing

Pff you should make your own phasechange, like 50$, but fugly if you dont do it right

He doesn't particularily need any hardcore cooling for his CPU, and the only reason I suggested water cooling was for the effect it'd have on his GPU. Water cooling generally lowers the GPU as much as 10-20 degrees.

Phase Change isn't really neccesary for this new breed of cores, for example:

That guy hit 3GHz with a XP120 at 38 degrees, nothing fancy, cost effective and temperature effective. At most he'd need a good watercooling setup and I gurantee you with TCCD and a Lanparty the only wall you'll end up hitting is stability wall. Temperature is not an issue with the Venice.

Ok, we want to go really hardcore with this OC, I should have mentioned that. We are going to build something crazy for the cooling, we have a few ideas that could be good. Maybe going as far as to install a car a/c unit.

I plan on o/c'ing everything I can, including but not limited to the gfx card. I'm looking at the xfx geforce 6200 with 128mb ddr3, that would be nice. I installed one of those recently, it kicks ass.
