upgrading my pc 2

I'm trying to upgrade my old pc spending few bucks. Now, the books say that I can only upgrade my Dimension L500CX's processor up to 733M, but the guy in Dell told me I can upgrade it up to 1,1M top, for $278 -lots of money for a piece of junk-. You think is true that I can upgrade up to 1.1M without risking what I have? In this case, I've found this one on Ebay for 30$,

hmm dell is sucha piece of crap (no offense)
do this, buy new tower (usally comes with power supply) use ur cd rom and floppy and hard drive thats in the dell, buy new mobo and processor, thats all under 300 dollars and u get a fast computer
