your scanning the registry and it shoots up to 100% CPU usage? I wouldn't think it'd require that much power

looks like your whole system is going crazy. Done any spyware or virus cleanups lately?

Or even a defrag?

Seems like your bios and or windows is reading a lot of things inaccuratly. Look into a bios update and think about a complete reformat - that stuff would scare me.
