im not a newbie but i dont know much about NTFS. can some explain to me how to format NTFS drives? i cant fromat them with "Format" and i've had some problems removing the partition with fdisk. is there special switch or program? and are they present on Win2k/XP's setup disks?

there are 3 ways, one of which you just mentioned. by booting up with a win2000/ winXP CD it will load a setup utility which can be used to delete and create a new partition. you could than do a full format using a NTFS filing system.

another way to delete an NTFS partition id through FDISK. this is done by selecting delete> non-DOS partition. you cannot format through FDISK and regular versions of DOS cannot access a partition formmatted with NTFS.

through the win2000 and winXP operating systems there is a feature called 'computer management'. you can access this by right clicking on 'my computer' and selecting 'manage'.

yah i just want to quick format an NTFS drive to install a fresh copy of windows.
where's this setup uitility? is the windows repair console?
