Compaq Laptop question

I have a friend who has a compaq laptop, it has a amd 3000+. The problem is its only running at 797 MHZ. It seems a lot slower, I did a virus scan, adware, spybot, and microsoft? Is there a way to fix it? or should I try to contact compaq? Thanks for the help By the way I d/l cpu info to get my info, and it also says that under system properties.

I have a Compaq laptop too. I slows down because it starts to overheat. It happens to my too. lol. Google SpeedFan and download it, then put yor fans at Max. Speed

I am guessing this is AMD Cool and Quiet working

See if your CPU speed goes up doing a memory intensive thing with CPU-Z from cpuid.com

What would be a good way to test it? Also does anyone know of another temp reader? Speedfan doesnt work.

SpeedFan should work. Your BIOS, or something like motherboard monitor

What key do you press to get into the bios, I've tried del, f12,f1,f10? Also none of the temp programs work, they freeze up and don't do anything.
