strange sound problems

i install xp from an original and the sound worked fine.
i installed from the backup and the sound is corrupted.

the sound comes on for a moment very crackly and then i get none until the machine is reset. the cpu usage is also massive.

new drivers, updates etc all done.

the backup copy installs fine with no errors so why doesnt the sound work properly?

sound is fine from the backup on other machines.

the software is xp pro. my sp2 slipstreamed disc also has the sound problem on the machine in question.

the mobo is fine becuase the sound does work when the o.s installed from the original disc. mobo also has just been replaced under warranty.

I'm not sure, but isn't there a way (they put it on the CD) that they can tell if it's a copy? Or it's slipstreamed?

the thing is that thecopy works fine with my other pc's. why would only this one have an issue?
