I cant wait three days, I'm ordering the parts today. One of the reasons I like ZZF so is because they have free 2 day shpping on their parts. New egg may have cheap shipping per part, but it adds up. The only thing that zzf charges to ship is the cases, and that is alot! But I can just go get a case locally, compusa or something.

UPDATE: I just hd some words with him, and he is rather adamant on P4 and there is really no persuading him otherwise. So now the ONLY stipulation other than the $1000 budget is that it has to be an Intel.

Get a 64-bit P4. The 6XX series.

Also get either a 6600gt or a X800. The X800 is cheap if you get it in a PCI-E flavor.

But I still think this would pretty much own. If you can't afford it there are a few spots that you can cut some money on.
But I think this would be a pretty good setup, the memory it insanely fast because the board had such very nice memory control features like PAT and HyperPath2. You don't have to overclock it for him but at least enable PAT and HyperPath2 for him as this will decrease memory latency a lot, enabling both of those would be wicked.

The motherboard is just plain sweet I think, and I love my ASUS board like no other. Apparently if you want AMD then ASUS is a bad idea. But for Intel ASUS makes the best boards for sure.

Oh, and the video card will do for gaming but if you want a serious gaming machine that could use an upgrade to a 6800 gt or x850 xt or x800 xl.

$204 is alot of a motherboard. Get something that is around $110. And dont get 2 HD's, just get 1. Save some money and get a X800 PCI-E card for like $210.

Also get a board with DDR only, not DDR2. The cpu only has 800mhz FSB. So get 2x512mb of DDR PC-3200 . DDR2 is too expensive and you wont take advantage of it.
