DVD drives

I am having a problem connecting both my DVD drives at the same time. First I bought a new hard drive then installed XP on it with no problems but when I try to connect both my DVD drives even if on different cables none they are not recognized. I have checked that they have power and each of them will work fine as long as the other is not connected. Dose anyone have any ideaÂ’s about what could be causing this problem?

check the jumpers and make sure they are not both set to master or something

i have tried that, the reader is set to master and the writer set to slave

do you have a 80 pin ide?

sometimes that helps.

can you hook one of them up on your hard drive ide?

Is your cables around the right way?
Triple check your jumpers
try a different cable.

Ive always had trouble remembering how to configure ide, lol

I believe I'm having the same problem is it when you plug in your two drives with you two harddrives it won't read anything if so then that is just like me.

Try flashing BIOS

no my bios dose not see the drives and have changed the cables. i only have the one hard drive. im really stuck with this
