once i run that program from the diskette it makes, am i going to have to change it so i doent try to load the oak driver?

yeah, open the config.sys file & delete the line containing oakcdrom.sys

open the autoexe.bat file
If the driver has loaded it's own line into that file, then add the word REM in front of the original mscdex instruction.
Otherwise, leave it intact for now

Better still, if you haven't loaded the driver yet, then do what I suggested above first before loading it.

Did the driver seem to load OK?
If so, is there more than one partition on the hard drive?
What drive letter was assigned to the CDROM?

driver seemed to load ok, only one partition, letter d:
it might not be the right driver
ihave the 755cd not the 760el
ugh!

also, i have a pcmcia external cd-rom and i have the driver file i downloaded, (i think it is in japanese) would it be worth trying that?
it is a fujitsu

Yeh that could be worth a shot. don't know what difference it will make being japanese though!

Are you sure the OS CD is OK? If so, it could be a fault with the actual cd drive itself, if its not a driver problem.

Another way of doing this as well, (and a whole new thread in itself) is to network the laptop to the desktop system via crossover network cable, or by using laplink cable, & copy win98 cab files straight onto hard drive
