This topic was brought up in the Off Topic forum.

There have been some cases of necroposting, and it has caused some confusion and embarrassment. The posts were dredged up from around two and a half years ago. Now, while old posts can contain good information, pulling up an archaic post for the heck of it is a waste of people's time and effort.

However, simply deleting the old posts may not be the best answer. i can understand doing it in the name of storage space, but that'sabout it.

I, myself, would rather see if we could figure a way to lock old threads that have not seen activity in a set length of time. These threads could be labeled as "Out of Date" or "Retired" or something, so people could distinguish between the junk and the good. By keeping these threads around but inactive, the Search feature would still be useful, while deleting all the older posts would hamstring it.

Just an idea. I thought it worthy enough to pass it along.
