hard drive fail

I have installed a new harddrive on my friends pc, but after the memory test it says master drive fail.

I can't do anything after except for going into the bios.

The hard drive is a samsung spinpoint ide hard drive.

any sugestions on what to do now?

I have got around that problem, it needed a start up disk. When it goes into dos, I type in setup d: but it says that this program can not be run in dos mode.

I know that I could put 98se on the drive, and then put xp on a different partition, then delete the 98se partition, but is there anouther way round this?

Yeah, you dont need to install 98 before XP. Just set the boot sequence to boot from the CD rom first and have the Windows cd in there. You can partition and format from within the setup.
