making an hard drive image?

i have heard that you can burn an image onto a disk then format your hard drive put the cd in and it will restore the settings you put onto the disk back on the computer

is this true?

Yes. Drive Image and Ghost both offer ways of doing this. There a many others too.

nero has an iso burner is that the same thing as an image?

no. An image is a bit level copy of your hard drive. I guess you could call an ISO an image, as it's the same thing, but it's not in this context.

go there and look at the informaiton on Ghost. It's pretty straight forward.
I don't use drive image, but others do so maybe they can give you a link. I'm a ghost person.

I recommend PowerQuest Drive Image or PowerQuest V2i Protector 2.0. I did not use the Symantec releases yet. Search google. I don't have a link.
