I'm still a little unsure about what to do with that link - it opens up in a new Mozilla window and is a page full of registry text - how would clicking RUN make that fix it? Sorry if I'm sounding a little dumb here. Do I not have to paste that text somewhere or something?

Just save the *.reg file to a folder-download, temp or whatever.

Find the *.reg file you downloaded.

Double-click the *.reg file.

It should give you a "Are you sure you want to modify the registry"
or something similiar message.

If you want to modify or make changes just agree by clicking the
OK tab.

Many thanks - I'll give it a try later. :)

Sorry to keep harping on about this, when I try to save that registry fix thing it only allows me to save it as a text file and you guys are talking about a .reg file. How do I save it in the right format?

If you right-click you will see the file name as "helpnsupport.reg"
under the "File Name" and "Text" as the "File Type".

Right-Click the link above in Warez link-find the "Save Link As" line.

Save the helpnsupport.reg file in a folder of your choice.

And follow the instructions pointed out in my *.reg info.

Let us know how it goes.

Ah OK thanks - will do. :)

I followed the instructions and could almost hear the drum roll as I went to click on help and support after rebooting - didn't work though. Seems this is just one uncrackable nut. Of all the people I've seen this happen to(through google searches etc) I can only recall a couple that fixed it, and they did things I have already done. Back to resigning myself to not having it. Thanks for all your help though. :)

The registry fix only helps if the helpctr.exe file is actually on your
system but if you dont even have the file on your comp then no
registry fix can locate a non-existant file.

Did you do a search on your comp for the helpctr.exe file? Search
all of your drives and folders-do a complete system search and not
just a given folder.

If you cant locate the file then you dont have it but it may still be in
a *.cab file.

If that doesnt work maybe someone here will be nice enough to email
you the helpctr.exe file. Im using 2KPro or I would email it to you.
