I'm guessing your using socket 478 and that you don't want to have to get a whole new mobo.

Intel Pentium 4/ 3.0E GHz 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology - Retail

This gives you 3ghz with 800mhz bus for a little bit higher price which will help you in the long run. Even if you upgrade your mobo you can swap the cpu out. It's not OEM either so you get your much needed hsf.

Yep this is the PCU to go with when you have Socket 478. I have this PCU for 2 months now and i also had 1.6GHz p4 before and once i put it in my PC the difference was huge. I do a lot of gaming as well.

Well that specific processor is on sale at the same price of a 2.8, the only complication is that it runs slightly hotter than the regular edition cpu's but just get another fan if your cooling system isn't substantial.

whats your motherboard model, your mobo might not be compatible with all of them.

Yeah im guessing his mobo wont support 800FSB which the newer processors are

but in all seriousness, if he has a Socket 423 motherboard, might as well sell what he has and look into a whole new platform since most boards had Rambus or PC133
