I would recommend a simple soldering pencil....no more than 40watts for what you're going to be doing.....

As for solder....I personally use Silver-Bearing Solder....015 diameter.....It's great stuff....You can just run down to your local Radio Shack and pick this stuff up.

What would you say to using a jig saw with a metal blade or tin snips? I used tin snips to cut out holes for my fans on the side my case, then filed them smooth. Since I am too cheap for a dremel, would the jig saw idea work for more intense cutting?

A jig saw work's fine if you don't have any other option's like hole saw's and that,I have used a jig saw a couple time's without problem's,Hell i even went the tin snip route too when i had nothing else to use

Depending on your case, using a dremel to cut out a window would be a LOT harder than you think. With my TT case even the toughest cutting blades in there can't exactly cut through it with ease. A jigswa would be much faster although a LOT louder and because of the up and down motion of the blade can sometimes warp the metal up top lol....but it's fairly easy to straighten out.

As far as soldering goes, a 25w iron will do just fine. Especially if you are new to soldering you don't want 40w because it'll get too hot too quickly and you'll wind up burning your board

Anyway, if you've got a drill (and drills are cheap, you can get one for half the $50 price of a dremel), you can use dremel tools. Just grab a cheap set of cutting disks and the chuck and yer all set. Of course, it's a pain in the but, but you'll get the same results.

lol yeah it'll go straight through the case and a couple inches of concrete......fun stuff
