Too many processes

Right now I have 40 background processes thats eating up 75% of my memory while idle and I want to shut down some but I don't know which ones I can safely turn off. Here is the list, any recommendations?

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2.

it's good to see that the memoptimizer.exe is doing a good job

i would start with the program that you can see.

what's sitting in your systemtray?

i'm there are some icons over there.

check your startup folder and see what's in there.

then try "msconfig" all of those are safe to uncheck if you wish.

look at the command line and see where the proccess is coming from.

s24evmon.exe - gives you acces to wireless network interface devices configurations and diagnostics
mqsvc.exe - Microsoft Message Queue Server

Use "msconfig" at the "run box" to disable what you want and / or use the Windows add/remove programs to remove any unwanted programs. You'll pick up 37.464 k of memory with both "non essential and optional" processes stopped. The best advice I could give is to add more RAM to your note-book. RAM is cheap and would serve you better than closing a few processes that will only make a negligable difference in the long run.

You're complaining!!! I have 51 processes on Windows XP! Including the Task Manager when open. However my system runs fine (or is it not achieving its potential :amazed: :freak: ).

...I haven't really thought about processes until know...

...off to MSCONFIG then .

Here is a great site to check running processes. It tells you what they are, do and product/company they are asscociated with.
