We've shown the Athlon 64 to have extremely solid single threaded performance. With the exception of our encoding tests, the Athlon 64 really can't be beat when it comes to running a single application.

The tables are turned as soon as multitasking is introduced, where you can't beat the fact that the Pentium D is able to fulfill the needs of more applications running in the background.

The new Pentium D, even at 2.8GHz, totally cleans up at multitasking, which is good news for anyone who wants to play a game while burning a DVD or encoding a video.

AMD still rules at single threaded processes, but it just can't keep up with the Intel once you introduce a multiprogram enviroment.

Also, the article leads one to believe the Pentium D will be much cheaper than the Toledo.

article only as freakin usual only explore's one OS, just like they did with the dual core article, winblows kernel task manager blows chunks, not as bad as it did with win98, but 2000 and XP still suck at it

Can't say I have a drastic need to burn a DVD while playing a video game anyway, but yeah it's always pretty much been known that the AMD's aren't multitaskers

That means nothing. AMD Dual cores are right around the corner, not to mention the 4200+ and FX-57 and whatnot. It's just going back and forth between when Intel releases something new and then AMD. Within a few months there will be a 'AMD ROCKS' thread with new benchmarking results. It's how 'business competition' works

Yea it seems like people dont have much for memory, allegiances (which are in a way somewhat foolish at times) go back and forth and people proclaim one superior than the other overall, no matter what, etc. They dont stop and think about what nVidia's last card was like etc. Its kinda rediculous and annoying, it changes people.
