Is it worth an extra $175?

Of course it's your decision, but I personally WOULD NOT recommend spending the money. The $175 would be better to put towards a video card or something. The difference between the 3800+ and 4000+ will not be noticeable in real world computing, only in benchmarks.
 
Waste waste waste. Take your g/f out for a nice evening :). After that, she'll make you feel better about the lost 200 MHZ :)
 
Wow, thanks guys. That was quick. And my girlfriend will breakup with me because of the loss of 200mhz so looks like I will have to overclock the 3800+:D

Anyway, the chips are essentially the same, just one's factory set to run faster. You won't gain any ability to OC more than the 3800, and you can OC the 3800 to a 4000. So don't was yer money.
