Okay, I was just taking a look at my motherboard and considering the possibility of upgrading to 2048 mb of RAM. I looked at my RAM slots and 2 of them are brown, and 2 are yellow. Do I really have 4 slots? My current 1024 mb RAM is running dual channel. What's up with the color coding? Does it mean anything?

ok, are the slots organized in pairs like

|| || || ||
B Y B Y

or like this

|| || || ||
B B Y Y

If its the first one you would have the 2 sticks of ram in the 1st and 2nd slot.

second option you have them in the 1st and 3rd slot.

all the color coding means is that you need to have 1 stick of ram in each color (dimm 0 of that color) for you to have any chance of dual channel support, then you need to have the bios have it supported, and i belive the os needs to support that but im not sure.

yes the color coding means something I.E. i just wrote about it :D

and yes you do have 4 ddr ram slots :D

What do you mean 'do I have 4 slots?' You see 4 slots don't ya so whats that tell ya?

I really wouldn't bother upgrading to 2gb, you won't even notice a speed and some computers when all 4 slots are filled will actually underclock the ram to DDR333 but you'd have to check your mobo specifications to answer that.

The color coding is to tell you what channels will run dual channel
