DDR400 vs DDR333

Which would be better - running 2x 512 of DDR 400 or 4x 512 of
DDR 333?

depends, if you are after speed, go with the ddr400, if you need to have a lot of ram (2gb is a bit too much at this time) then go with the ddr333.

I personally would choose the 1gb ddr400, i use the same set up myself

id go with ddr400, as the 333 is outdated. Ul hafta upgrade it at some point.

1gb is more than enough. It'd be pointless to have 2gb of slower RAM. Use PC3200

2x 512 is the way to go.

In some tests 4x 512 (3200) would be slower than 2x 512 (3200) as well

It really depends on your applications. If you have to keep a LOT of stuff in memory (like experimental data from some experiment), then 2GB might be better. b/c a combination of 1GB memory and always hitting the HDD to get the other data might be more time consuming than keeping everything in memory (slower ram) without having to go to the HDD. But, this is a special case and don't apply to lots of ppl. For the typical gamer 1GB is more than enuff. So for u go with the 2x3200 sticks.
