Grinding on startup?

Soemthimes, not always, normally when I start the pc up after not using it for a night it makes some sort of a gridning/loading sort of noise.

It can be loud or soft and can last from 5 to 15 seconds.

Theer isn't anything stuck in the cpu fan.

Any ideas what's causing this?

check all sys fan and then check hdd then check cd drives

Sound's like it might be the hard drive starting to go on you.

Any idea as to a general location this noise is coming from?

That sometimes happens, it comes from my CD Drive. It is quite old though.

then you can either and open it up, and try to fix the CDROM, or get a new one

Fix it what way, what's actually making the grinding noise?

It's hard to say as it does not last long enough to know. What should I look for when looking at my hardware?
