motherboard-processor upgrade

I have a HP pavilion 8575c.

PIII 550 MHz
chipset 440 BX
128 MB ram (I upgraded to 256)

i was wondering if i could upgrade my processor to a PIII 1.0GHz/133MHz


Am i just wasting my time with this or not...?

if any further info. is needed about my computer...

Personally I'd say you would be wasting your time. Just save and build a new computer.

As long as the socket types are the same it will work. Check to see what your Mobo's max FSB is aswell, it may be your mobo is to old to take the full potential of your new P3 and will just end up underclocking itself.
