Hey i want to do a full wipe of my computer and then re-install windows xp home. Usally i just pop in the windows xp home cd and re-install it over the old one, but i want to format the hard drive now.

i wanna know how to format the hard drive, then re-install windows?

thanks

Download a program called Killdisk. Google it. It writes zeros to the drive.

ok then after i write zeroes to my drive, how do i re-install windows? just chuck the cd in when the bios comes up?

thanks

Yeah put in the CD, but first make sure your BIOS is set so that the computer will boot from the CD drive.

well when i press f12 on startup it comes up with a menu displaying hard drive cd floppy. so do i select cd before i wipe, or when i am puttin in the windows cd?

thanks

you don't need Killdisk. Just the XP disc. Boot from the XP disc and it will ask you wich partition to install on, choose the current XP partition and it will ask you if u really want to proceed (cause it will find the old version), proceed and choose to format the partition.

Good luck.
