yes, pretty much every new board will support SATA drives
however, if you haven't already got that drive, I would recommend a Seagate instead. their SATA drives are natively SATA, not just PATA bridging to SATA. and they are a fast, quiet and reliable drive
RAID: basically, you are using multiple hard drives (usually the same type and size) to form one partition which is faster and/or more reliable than just using one drive
RAID can make drive access faster by running 2 or more drives in paralell, so that the system reads or writes to all the drives at the same time to get a faster overall speed
just say I had the word "HELLO"
a RAID 0 would put this over 2 drives as follows:
drive 1 | drive 2
H | E
L | L
O |
or a RAID 1 array can use 2 drives, and make it look like 1 drive of the same capacity as one. it will read and write the same data to both drives, effectively making a backup of all the data in case one drive fails
