Some other questions:
1. Is my CD drive good enough to burn random CDs and watch dvds?

Yes.

2.Will my monitor be ok for gaming

Depending on the refresh rate. 16ms will be fine, 25 will ghost and therefore no.

3.Will the current PSU work (i was gonna go for a thermaltake but i went with this one to keep it just above $1000 after shipping)

PSU are one of the things u CANT skimp on. That's all I'll say.

4.Do i even need a different PSU than the stock one?

See Above

5.What other cooling will i need besides the stock 80mm side fan?

A good CPU HSF, an 80,92 or 120mill exhaust in the rear.

6.If I wait for a little...say 2 or 3 months...will the cost be siginficantly lower?

Most likely, with all the new Gen stuff arriving

suggestions:

1. get evga or leadtech instead of msi for the video card
2. better psu. antec, fortron, sparkle, ocz all make aweome psu's
3. just so you know, the speakers on your monitor are going to SUCK.
4. other than that it sounds nice.

OK i changed some things:

MSI "K8N Neo2 Platinum" NVIDIA nForce3 ULTRA Chipset Motherboard

-OR-

MSI "K8N Neo4 Platinum" NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra Chipset Motherboard

still checking out whichone will be better for me (price vs. performance, etc)

With PCI-e mobo i switched vid cards to:

EVGA nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Video Card, 128MB GDDR3, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, PCI-Express

Took your advise on PSU and am getting:

Thermaltake Silent PurePower, 420W ATX power supply.UL, CSA, TUV, CE Approved. Intel Pentium 4 Compliant

How do those changes look?
