AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Retail $267
this is probabbly the most overclockable CPU I've seen

Enermax Noisetaker 470W $78
this is a silent, good quality PSU

Gigabtye K8N Ultra SLI $150
has 2 PCI-E 16x slots, 2 PCI-E 1x slots and 2 PCI slots, and runs socket 939 CPU's

G.Skill 2x512MB PC4400 DDRRAM $230
this is so far the fastest RAM available

eVGA 6800 GT $372.49

BenQ 17" LCD screen $265
has an 8ms response time, so there should be no problems with video lag

2 x Seagate 200GB SATA $216
put 2 of these in a RAID 0 to get fast speeds and a lot of storage

LG GSA-4163B DVD±R/RW Beige or black $46 / $60
I have one of these, and it is really quiet and fast.
get the colour that matches your case

choose your own case, but use the Enermax PSU

total = $1624.50 or $1638.50 not including case

I'd stick with INTEL seeing as you've clearly stated your needs are for more advanced applications ^ what apokalipse suggested sounds very good, except for the cpu and the motherboard.

personally I dislike the Intel's ATM, especially the 600 series processors
the benchmarks with Intel's EMT64 are not very good, it's looking like Intel will not really have good 64-bit processors for quite a while
the Athlon 64's are still good multimedia processors, and the 3500+ is very overclockable especially with the RAM I posted. the RAM can reach 600MHZ without coolers

Well I get confused more and more ... I've read amd is better for games and intel is better for apps such as video editing and importing/recording ... which is it?

is the ATI usb 2.0 tuner compatible with nVidia? Or do they just work better with ait cards like the 800xl i was going to order?

What is Raid? Excuse my ignorance but I am not familiar, is this better then have a 34 gig 10k rpm raptor? and then having a 200gb 5400 rpm drive?

is the Ram you listed faster than this ?

Crucial Intel Validated 240-Pin 1GB ECC DDR2 PC2-3200, Model CT18HTF12872AY40EA1 - OEM

That ram can run faster than most of the DDR2. DDR2 is not fully compatable and DDR1 still holds all the speed records.

If you get a 200 gig harddrive, 7200RPM is not that much more expensive.

AMD for gaming, Intel for apps, usually, although they're both pretty good at everything.

Ok so i'm guessing 10k rpm's is not really that necessary compared to getting a 200gb 7400 drive for video editing and recording/tv capturing?

and as far as Memory I guess stick with DDR? 1x1024mb @ 400mhz?

And stick with Intel P4 6xx series for my video editing, capturing, recording needs??? Let me know, because I can save a helluva lot getting an Athlon AMD 64 ... let a guy know!

10,000RPM drives aren't neccesary, but they'll certainly be something you'll appreciate. Video editing requires a lot of encoding and capturing and generally moving files around. Faster access times on your hard drive will decrease the time these tasks will take, and I'm pretty sure the access time on 10,000RPM drives is close to half the time of 7200RPM drives.

A RAID configuration is defined as a configuration of two or more hard drives which are fault tolerant. Ironically, the one RAID configuration I mentioned is the only exception to this rule. A RAID 0 uses two hard drives and defines them as one partition. Data saved to this partition is stripped or broken in half and each half is sent to one drive. In theory, this means that files can be accessed twice as fast. Again, a benefit to video editing.

Intel and AMD don't really have much of a difference, Intel is superior as encoding and video work, but AMD is pretty damn cheap for equal performance in my opinion. Doesn't really matter though.

DDR is fine, I recommend splitting your 1GB into two sticks of 512MB and running dual channel memory for a slight perfomance benefit.

Oh, and the x800XL is a fine card, it's the best you'll find in it's price range and in some cases, above its price range. Stick with it.

Thanks! Ok I'm hoping to order tonight, here is my latest conifguration tell me how it looks and please point out any retarded configs, and let me know if you think this will all work together flawlessy and if I should add any cooling or if I'm missing anything! THANKS IN ADVANCE

I was going to buy Windows XP off of chiefvalue.com only because newegg charges 199.99 for the full version and chief value charges 92.49 if you buy hardware and i was gonna add a 1.50 atx fan, maybe a better one if you think I need the cooling. Thanks in advance for advice etc!
