personally I dislike the Intel's ATM, especially the 600 series processors
the benchmarks with Intel's EMT64 are not very good, it's looking like Intel will not really have good 64-bit processors for quite a while
the Athlon 64's are still good multimedia processors, and the 3500+ is very overclockable especially with the RAM I posted. the RAM can reach 600MHZ without coolers

Well I get confused more and more ... I've read amd is better for games and intel is better for apps such as video editing and importing/recording ... which is it?
is the ATI usb 2.0 tuner compatible with nVidia? Or do they just work better with ait cards like the 800xl i was going to order?

Ok so i'm guessing 10k rpm's is not really that necessary compared to getting a 200gb 7400 drive for video editing and recording/tv capturing?

10,000RPM drives aren't neccesary, but they'll certainly be something you'll appreciate. Video editing requires a lot of encoding and capturing and generally moving files around. Faster access times on your hard drive will decrease the time these tasks will take, and I'm pretty sure the access time on 10,000RPM drives is close to half the time of 7200RPM drives.
A RAID configuration is defined as a configuration of two or more hard drives which are fault tolerant. Ironically, the one RAID configuration I mentioned is the only exception to this rule. A RAID 0 uses two hard drives and defines them as one partition. Data saved to this partition is stripped or broken in half and each half is sent to one drive. In theory, this means that files can be accessed twice as fast. Again, a benefit to video editing.
Intel and AMD don't really have much of a difference, Intel is superior as encoding and video work, but AMD is pretty damn cheap for equal performance in my opinion. Doesn't really matter though.
DDR is fine, I recommend splitting your 1GB into two sticks of 512MB and running dual channel memory for a slight perfomance benefit.
Oh, and the x800XL is a fine card, it's the best you'll find in it's price range and in some cases, above its price range. Stick with it.
