Hi everyone, im new to these forums. Well anyway I need some advice, recently i've come into some money. I was trying to decide which graphics card I should get. Currently im using a 9600xt so any of these would be a BIG step up from what im already using. I priced the X800 XL at $290, the X800 XT at $380, and the X800 XT PE at $490.

Heres the specifications on the cards...

Specifications on the X800 XL:
Chipset/Core Speed: ATI Radeon X800 XL/400MHz
Pixel Pipeline: 16
Memory/Effective Speed: 256MB GDDR3/980MHz
BUS: PCI-Express X16
Ports: VGA Out(15 Pin D-Sub) + TV Out(HDTV/S-Video/Composite Out) + DVI
Support 3D API: DirectX 9, OpenGL 2.0
Max Resolution@32bit Color: 2048X1536@85Hz
RAMDACs: 400 MHz

Specifications on the X800 XT:
Chipset/Core Speed: ATI Radeon X800 XT/500MHz
Memory/Effective Speed: 256MB GDDR3/1000MHz
BUS: AGP 8X
Ports: VGA Out(15 Pin D-Sub) + VIVO + DVI
Support 3D API: DirectX 9, OpenGL 2.0
Max Resolution@32bit Color: 2048X1536@85Hz

Specifications on the X800 XT PE:
Chipset/Core Speed: ATI Radeon X800 XT PE/520MHz
Memory/Effective Speed: 256MB GDDR3/1120MHz
BUS: AGP 8X
Ports: VGA Out(15 Pin D-Sub) + VIVO + DVI
Support 3D API: DirectX 9, OpenGL 2.0
Max Resolution@32bit Color: 2048X1536@85Hz

Which Card is the best for my money?
Many thanks to everyone.

Of those, the X800 XT PE is definitly the best. For the most bang for your buck, id say the X800 XL. However, make sure you have PCI-Express slots before you get that card! Im sure others have comments.

From Tech Report.

GeForce 6800 GT:

Core clock (MHz) 350
Pixle pipelines 16
peak fill rates (mpixels/s)5600
texture units per pixel pipeline 1
Peak fill rate (Mtexels/s) 5600
Memory Clock (MHz) 1000
Memory Bus Width (bits) 256
Peak memory bandwith (GB/s) 32.0

Radeon X800 XL:

Core Clock (MHz) 400
Pixle Pipelines 16
Peak fill rates (mpixels/s) 6400
Texture units per Pixel pipeline 1
Peak fill rate (Mtexels/a) 6400
Memory Clock (Mhz) 980
Memory Bus Width (Bits) 256
Peak Memory Bandwith (GB/s) 31.4

Best for the money would probably be the X800XL, as far as price/performance goes, zipzoomfly has it for like $289 or so I believe, te X800XTPE is like...$500 or so? But should prove to be a very powerful card, probably closer to a 6800Ultra, but it's been a while since I've looked at various benches so I'm not entirely sure on that one.

There was this big hoopla though recently that the X800XL is supposed to perform equivelant or better than the 6800GT( and of course the 6800GT costs around $350-$400 right now)

Of course the 6800GT (eVGA version especially) can be fairly easily overclocked to Ultra speeds.

BUT, as I said, make sure that you have PCI-Express slots before you buy an X800 XL. Its not an AGP card.

For less than 300 bucks, the x800XL is without a doubt the best 16 pipeline high end card you can get for its price.

.

Ok, thanks alot for replys everyone, i will be getting the X800 XL. And yeah i do have pci-e slot, im getting a new comp in a few weeks. Thanks for your concern.

I've got both the x800 xt pe and the x800 xl. I the x800 xt pe is a good amount better than the x800 xl but I think it's probably not worth the extra $200. The x800 xl is a great card. With AMD 3000+, 1gb corsair ram I scored 4820 on 3dmark05. That is compared to my current system in my sig 3.4ghz p4, 1gb corsair ram (removed 1gig for test) and scored 5928. Both systems are at stock speeds. So if I factor in that the AMD processor is weaker than my intel there is probably only 500 or so 3dmark05 points of difference between the two cards. With a little overclocking I bet I will be able to get the x800 xl to match the xt pe.
