Webcam emulation

Is there a way to make a virtual web cam on your system. I want it so that when the cam is accessed it will start playing an avi, or show a picture until it is disconnected. Also, is there a way to do the same thing with the sound card. I'm wanting to make a video conferencing answering machine.

you can use ur webcam via many things ie. msn messanger.
you can also use a mic at the same time..

I want a program that appears as a webcam to software, but is actually a prerecorded video.

only way i can think of is to program your own code to do it. Unfortunately i dont know how
