build a comp for $400?

i'm on a very tight budget here. first of all i don't play games. i do a little designing in autocad, surf the internet and watch movies. i'm just looking for something better than my 1ghz athalon with 256mb of ram. i want to keep that one though, so i will need a new case.
is it possible?

Get an emachine. They suck but it will work.

you forgot hd, cd drive.
just scratch out the video card and use the money for a hard drive. you really do not need a sound card unless the motherboard already has intergrated sound.
or he can just buy a dell

Look in the sunday ads and you can find some 60 dollar 512 mb ram and a 50 dollar 120 gig (or I've even seen a 160 gig) hard drive. That is assuming you can find money for rebates. I hate rebates.
