mobo, os question

wasn't sure weather to post this in OS or harware so i figuered i would just post it here since this is weere i hang out most of the time ok here is the problem i got my mobo today in the mail and decided i didn't wanna wait for my case so i went ahead and just hooked it up in my old case so i got it all hooked up and put together and started it up and my os seems to load up ok but it either gets to the part where it asks for me to log in or it gets right to loading my desktop and then automatically restarts...could this be becuase i was trying to be 2 lazy and not wanna reinstall my os or something different?

i've never had this problem before though but althought i haven't tried this since 98/ME so maybe it's something to do with ntsf
