Hello,

Its been about 2 years since I built my last PC, which I researched all the parts and components for about 10 days. Now I need to buy or build another PC and I don't feel like researching so much :)

You know how it is!
So I was hoping I could get some good advise and/or recommendations.

This is what I'm wanting in my next computer:

1) at least 512 meg of ram--
What type, kind, brand is the fastest and best?

2) about 60-80 gig hard drive--
Is 7200 and ATA 133 still the fastest/best kind to get?

3) guessing I will get an AMD-- (cheaper than intel, with no different in performance????)
I would assume a 2 gig cpu is plenty.

4) any good ideas on a mother board?

5) not really concerned with anything else... I REALLY just need a very fast data processing machine. It will not play games, just process lots of data.

thanks in advance for your ideas, thoughts, and recommendations!!!!

If you have good places to buy parts and/or the whole PC, please say so

mobo - Asus
CPU - AMD
Hard drive - Western Digital
Memory, Anything with Samsung chips (Kingston does I think). Go with PC2700 DDR. Less tempramental then PC3200 but still fast.
Video - Go with a Geforce 4 MX440. Cheap but not that cheap.

I hope I don't confuse you in your decision making process!!!
We all have our experiences, good or bad, with different brands though. Have fun building!

Mobo - ASUS - No doubt....spend the extra $ for this

CPU - AMD AthlonXP 2800+ or higher. Don't bother with the AMD 64 yet. Waste of $ as you wont be able to put it to it's full potential.

Memory - Must agree with previous post. Go with Samsung or Ultra PC2700. If you are thinking about any more than 512Mb DDR, make sure that you buy 2 sticks of the SAME RAM. Don't mix brands.

HDD - 60GB - 80GB 7200rpm Western Digital

Hope these help
