hmm, that shouldn't be the problem. I'm assuming that everything is brand new, however if it isn't, is the CPU overclocked? CPU fan plugged in?

yes everything is brand new, cpu fan plugged in as i can see it whirring. The only thing that i could think to be it, is there is no fan in a socket on the mobo labbelled "pwr_fan1", though this probably has no relevance what so ever?

It is not because of the operating system, if it was the op system it would say operating system not found and just stay there. try these things:

1 reset bios
2 reseat ram in diff slots
3. check if all power cords all plugged in (4 pin, 20/24 pin)
4. chec if you videocard has a power cord going into it, it might have extra power for the videocard
5. well thats all i can think of

If you cant even get into the BIOS you may have a bad board.

Keep tapping the "Delete" key while the system is starting. You
dont have to bang the key just keep tapping until the system
tries to enter the BIOS.

Check the power to the board from the PSU.

Follow what comrad says-recheck all the connections and
reset BIOS and RAM.

Did you double check ALL the jumpers before you installed
the board.

Im not sure if you are saying that after your system goes
thru POST it "actually" shuts down or does it take you to a
blank screen?

umm also not all systems use delete key for instance mine i have to push f2 to get into bios maybe this will help
