I am planning on upgrading my current comp over the summer
I have a budget of about a $1000 I will be getting a new

1. mobo socket 939
2. processor
3. Graphics card
4. Power supply probably x-connect
5. cpu fan
6. dvd-rw drive
7. Additional ram whatever is supported by my mobo

Let me know what i should get

go to fry's get a cheap AMD 64-bit 3000+ or 3200+. Today the 3000+ w/ a mobo was $200. $100 for RAM, $200 for a graphics card. I probably estimated those on the cheap side, but the max i spend when i buy my computer is $500.

amd athlon 64 3200+/$190
dfi ut nf4/$145
evga 6600gt/$195
1 gb of ram (512x2)/$110
zalman copper heatsink/ $45
total $645

you can use the extra to buy case, psu, and dvd drives

$1000 - $645 = $355 incase you didn't notice. A dual-layer DVD+/-RW drive averages $60 I belive. Cases range from $20-$110, but anything over $50 is just bells and whistles. PSU's average about $30, no? Hypothetically if he were to buy 2 DVD drive's at $60/pc, a $50 case, and a $30 PSU, he would have $155 left over. phosho, your choices are good, but aspire, if you have $1000 for just those 7 (8?) components, set some aside for a car insurance payment, or something like that.

Well... the reason that we're haveing so much trouble upgrading this is becuase 1000 is a hard price point. It's a point in no-man's land in which you have to compromise on what you buy. Some stuff can be extra good and other stuff you'll just have to settle on just being good, and we're kinda used to making our computers all good or all extra good, or all bad for that matter.

Im gonna be working the whole summer doing two jobs lifeguarding and swim lessons. 9 bucks an hour each. By the end of the summer Im planning on upgrading my comp and buying a powerbook g4 15 inch.
