I'm going to be building my first gaming computer in a few weeks. I don't have much experience on building besides a few upgrades on previous computers and what I've been reading up til now.

Thermaltake Black Highest Xaser III Super Tower without Power Supply, Model "V1000A" -RETAIL

ASUS "A8V Deluxe" VIA K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU -RETAIL

AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 512K, L2 Cache, Socket 939 Windows Compatible 64-bit Processor - Retail

OCZ Value Series Dual Channel Kit 184-Pin 2GB(1GBx2) DDR PC-3200 - Retail

Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD740GD, OEM Drive Only

Antec 550W Power Supply, Model "TRUE550" - Retail

I've got a $1,700 budget, but I'd like to try and keep it at $1,500 if possible. Currently to go with it I've got an ATI Radeon 9800 vid card, Sony DVD drive, and RW drive. Any advice, help and opinions anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Everybody around here has been telling me that 1 gig of RAM is plenty for today. id save the money and invest in a 6800 GT 256MB.

1 gb is more then enough but do not get thay motherboard becuz its a via and via deosent like ati vid card i had via once and it gave me 20-40 fps so i got a nforce chip and tha was on a msi mobo so dont get via chipestets!!

Is there anyone else that has had this problem? Do you have any links showing evidence of their incompatibility?

Ultdust, I think you have a pretty decent budget gaming comp going there. As previously posted, I would only get 1 GB of RAM, though.

A few changes on my list, could I get some more critques before I start my purchases?
