error loading operating system

i get this message everytime i turn on my comp

i've tried installing win xp pro sp2, xp home sp1, and both of them gave me this message (win98 was installed on this before i think, but it always showed "loading dmi pool" or something like that and just stuck there, so i installed xp over it

and i tried repairing it (with fixboot) and that didn't work either

DiabloII, im sure someone here can help you. But i would also try posting this in the Windows Forum. I have a few ideas why you might have a problem. Such as, if you installed windows over the excisting windows. But i couldent REALLY help you. Active members at the Windows Forum are good with software issues.
