umm i duno if u have these in america but in australia we have these Green shopping bags which u can buy so we dont use so many plastic bags and they have these black plastic liners which make the #1 mousepad for opticals

I just received my PS/2 Optical Logitech. Works prefectly, for only 10 dollars.

Maybe try a converter so you aren't using the USB.

I had a similar problem and I thought my power supply was dying or something but it ended up being spyware. So check for spyware.
