Why RAM? Why Not Hard drive?

Im no expert, but I would guess because of the architecture of current proccessers, theres no feasible way to provide that much bandwith to an IDE/SATA drive.

My ram is 5.8 GIG \ SECOND (For cheap ram too)

My hard drive is about 0.9 GIG \ SECOND

Why things on the hard drive need to be located, read and sent to RAM before they can be processed?

The contents of your hard drive aren't neccesarily delivered straight to the RAM. Different software applications utilize ram to temporarily store data. It really has little to do with the hard drive, unless you want to talk about paging files.
