Can anyone help me out? I accidentaly broke my Dell's piece of crap Celeron processor and am saving up to buy a new one, but the new processor will be a Pentium 4. I'm currently looking at one that costs $136, its a 2.4ghz without the heatsink or fan. Is that a good price for that? If not, do any of you know anywhere I can get a P4 2.4ghz for cheaper than that?

Thanks in advance,

I need your service tag in order to look up the specs for your motherboard. http://tinyurl.com/5nhvh <--link to instructions for finding service tag.

Dell uses the service tag to catalog the exact configuration of their computers. The Dimension 2400 can have one of at least two or more different motherboards. One mobo would support it, but I don't know about the other without being able to know exactly which one you have.

ok , most likely thats a good price, for newegg has very good prices. next, it looks compatible, but what is your socket on the dell? the p4 you're looking it is a socket 478...but i cant find what kind of socket your computer is on that link you gave me

like i said, i dont know an 8th of what most ppl here do tho

OK. From what I can find on Dell's support site (which ain't much!):

Intel Pentium 4 that runs at 2.2 or 2.4 GHz internally and 400 MHz externally, or 2.266, 2.4, 2.53, 2.66, 2.8, or 3.06 GHz internally and 533 MHz externally.

Intel Celeron that runs at 2.0, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, or 2.7 GHz internally and 400 MHz externally.

From the way I see it, you could go all the way up to a 3.06GHz

The link is for a 3.0GHz, for $199. You may want to email Dell Support to make sure, though. Having to pay for the shipping and a 15% restocking fee would really suck.
