I want to install a second hard drive. At the moment I have my main hard drive as primary master, and a DVD drive as my secondary master. Does it affect the speed of the devices depending on where I put the new hard drive? By the way I'm keeping my current hard drive where it is.

Thanks in advance.

As a general rule, you should keep CD/DVD drives seperate from Hard drives, mainly due to the fact that CD/DVD drives operate at ATA-33 whereas hard drives will be a lot faster.

This especially true if both hard drives are the same speed (ie ATA-133 etc).
Also, data transfer is improved when you transfer from one channel to another, so this set up is best for transferring between hard drive to CD/DVD Rom.

Best thing to do is to put the second HDD on the same IDE channel as the original making sure the HDD is set to slave.

Samm is correct it is a BIG mistake to put optical drives on the same IDE channel as HDDs.
