ok in a nutshell. what are they? how much will they cost apporimately, how do they work? and how much better are they from the amd fx-55

its a motherboard with 2 processors, they cheapest ones start at about 250$ and go from there. most are for XEONs and P4s. the cheapes good XEONs cost about 300$.
if ur willing to spend that much, way better than a 55.

Their are no dual core chips available. What your talking about is dual processors.

For gaming, not even quad processors will beat the fx-55.

Dual socket is a motherboard with two processors.

Dual core is a single processor with ....you guessed it....two cores inside.

Dual socket mobos generally have opterons in them for server applications

Apparently the FX series is still supposed to be AMDs top end processor cores, even after they release Toledo.

For gaming the FX55 is the hands down winner in tests I've been reading about. The dual core intels seem to have come too late and don't post scores near an FX55.
