Setting up 2nd hard drive...

I have a 40gig ATA100 HD that is getting pretty old.
I would like to buy a 80gig SATA drive and backup some of my info onto there.

Do I need to do anything other than just installing the hard drive, and can I install an operating system on it so that I don't have to format/etc when the first one fails?

Well now first question is do you have a SATA port on your MOBO.

I have SATA on my mobo. If I didn't I wouldn't buy a SATA HD.
