hi im buying a new comp still decidign i wanted to know does the 256 mb make a dif?

there was just a thread about this a few days ago. and no it doesn't matter, core/memory clock speed is much more important.

The 256 meg is to trick nubs into buying a card they make more profit out of. It's completly pointless having 256meg on the normal 6600's.

How can you say it doesn't make a differance? That is a total lie. If your looking to play the newer games like HL2 and Doom3 the double memory will make the game run MUCH smoother because there is more ram to store the super hi-res detailed frames.

k im confused agian does it or doesn't. Let say the 128 MB can do 62 fps in HL 2 how much more if any the 256 MB?

Also which brand is the best of the 6600 GT?

it might give u an extra frame maybes two. at the moment there is that little advantage of having the 256. also i havent seen any 6600gts with 256 the 256 only comes on the standard 6600 which is nowhere near as good as the GT version. the best cards are by eVGA, msi, BFG and gigabyte ( i would say the last one cos ive got one ;) )
