Cant get into WIN XP ??

im trying to fix a friends computer that has been over run by spyware, viruses,etc... its so bad that when i get to the login screen where you select which user it won't load up.My question is can i repair, or reinstall windows without losing my friends documents and pics ?

actually i just tried through safe mode, it doesnt load either ?

i just tried that aswell , it makes no difference.

You can do an upgrade which will keep his documents, but a new install will delete everything. So when you click the user name, nothing comes up? Not even after 10 minutes or so? Or if you can, you can take the harddrive out and put it on your system as a slave and take the documents off that way or use another harddrive to install xp on then use the bad drive as a slave to save the documents.

thats correct when i click on his name nothing happens,would it be safe to put his hard drive onto my computer though ? i have a free drive bay available .
