my pal needs a new comp for $750 AUS (can go to about 850 @ max ) will be for gaming and school work.. games like warcraft, maybe source..

Don't need

- monitor
- lan card
- keyboard/mouse
- Cd-R
- Modem

Need

-CPU ( amd or pentium, no preference, whichever works out cheaper)
-Mobo ( Nothing fancy, good brand)
-Ram ( 512mb)
-GPU
Harddrive ( 80gig)
-Cd-RW/DVD-r/rw
-PSU
-Maybe a case, see if it can fit in there( again nothing special, no windows or nething like that)

this is the system i have kinda suggested... suggest changes or ideas plz..

AMD SYSTEM

cpu- 64bit 3000+ socket 754(dont tell me 939 unless u can make it fit into the budget)
mobo - abit 9f7-s ( i have no idea about mobos, i just put a random one down coz it was cheap, i dont even know if its pci-e or agp.)
RAM - 1x 512 Generic Elixir pc 3200
CD-RW/Dvd-rw - (I put in a dual layer pioneer burner, he wants one, but isnt sure whether it will fit in the budget)
GPU - Powercolour 9600XT 128mb
PSU - antec 350w Smart BLue ( told him a good psu is a necessity )

P4 System
pent 4 3.0 prescott ( plz no amd v. p4 )
mobo-- asus p4r800-vm
ram - same as above
cd-rw/dvd-r/rw - same as above
psu - ^ ^
gpu - ^ ^
harddrive - ^ ^

they both kinda work out the same price so please write some suggestions, or make up new systems, im kinda stuck and so is he

i'd get a mobile xp cpu and an abit nf7-s mobo. a 9800 gpu or 6600gt if you can fit it into the budget. some corsair pc3200 ram should be fine for him. most likely with his setup any psu that comes from a decent case should work fine since there's nothing really that requires so much power.
