Weird computer problems

I have checked with Ad-aware, numerous antivirus programs, etc.

I made a text file a week or two ago and just accessed it, and now it's gibberish. Does anyone know of any diagnostics that could check my memory to see if that's the problem, or should i just buy a new hard drive?

I just got my new hard drive, and when I was installing it I realized that the molex power cable connected to my old HD was also powering one of my fans and my dvd+-rw. I thought it was on a dedicated line. do you guys think this could be the issue?

Windows will use temporary directories during a cut and paste. The first think I'd try is to delete the contents the temp directories (start with windows disk cleanup wizard).
