Service Pack 2-Bad?!

What .dll was it? Does the pc even boot to the desktop or keeps restarting, misssing os?

I have sp2 on 2 rigs. These are my suggestions. Download the complete sp2 exe. Dont let microsoft handle it for you automatically. Before installation ,make sure you are offline. Turn of all background programs such as firewall , anti-virus, messengers. And then be patient. When windows restarts it may go to a black screen and make you think it failed. If you wait , it will return to normal.

Security Hotfix Support for Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional with no service packs installed will be provided through September 30, 2004.
Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) will be supported in accordance with the Microsoft Support Lifecycle policy until September 17, 2006.

(bringing topic back) im confused now, I have a fresh install of XP, everything went smooth, but from the last few post it seems like you can get most of the security fixes anyways, so i really wonder should i precede with windows XP, seems like download it from microsoft is better?
