what is your budget.
i suggest amd athlon 64
or save for the new venice cores
and get the 6600gt

Well, if you need everything including monitor $1000 is going to be pretty tight. What you listed is definately not "a very fast gaming computer."

Here are a couple of my humble suggestions:

Forget the second CD drive. Get one DVD-R/RW/CD-R/WR drive and save a couple bucks
I would not spend the money on the 74gb raptor drive with your budget. Just get a 80gb 7200 and save some money there.
Don't spend the money on expensive speakers. That is an easy upgrade when you have more money.
And I hate to say it, but with your budget, you might want to scrap the LCD and get a CRT. I love my LCD, but you do have to spend a pretty penny to get a good one. I did not look at the specs of the one you listed but you want at least 16ms response on an LCD for gaming.

Now, with the money saved above:
Upgrade CPU
Upgrade GPU

The athlon 64 and 6600GT are could suggestions.

You don't want to cut corners on the processor and video card if you want a gaming PC.

i suggest waitng till the new cores come out w/ windows longhorn and not getting a 6600GT but getting a higher card like the 6800GT or something that comes out like a new gen card. Just get 64bit AMD(new cores) a good mobo and a later gen card if they come out sometime soon from Nvidia. other than that your stuff is pretty fine.

Raidmax Black gaming case w/ 420 wat psu

good case, looks good, big enough. The power suppy seems to also be in good shape. Nuff said.

Sony 52/32/52 cd-rw

all you need is something to write CD's. This one is cheap and happens to be quite to.

Chaintech Nvidia Nforce 4 MB - socket 939
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=13-152-049&catalog=23&manufactory=BROWSE
A high quality MB with the best socket available at the time.

Athlon 3500+ winchester
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-494&catalog=23&manufactory=BROWSE
THe absolute best processor you can get for it's value. THe winchester core is also the best version. This will perform MUCH better than the XP 3200, anyone who knows anything about computers will agree with me.

Arctic Cooler for athlon 64
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=35-185-115&catalog=23&manufactory=BROWSE
I dont know much about 939 coolers, so if anyone knows something better that fits his budget please suggest. This one looks good. Not too loud either...

Chaintech 6600GT (DDR3)
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=14-145-098&catalog=23&manufactory=BROWSE
This is also one of the best values you can get on the market, and i guarantee you it will smoke a 9600XT. It will play all the latest games and last you for at least 2-3 years.

Corsiar Value RAM (1 gig: 512x2)
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-440&catalog=23&manufactory=BROWSE
Corsair always makes good, quality RAM. Thier value ram does exacty what it is supposed to, and if you arent overclocking alot you dont need anything more. The ram is also very affordable.

Hitache SATA 80gb Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=22-145-049&catalog=23&manufactory=BROWSE
no need for a $200 raptor hard drive on a 1000 dollar budget. Why not spend 1/4 as much and get less performance on your hard drive, and add the extra cash to use on the video card and processor (6600GT and 3500+ for example). Your computer will perform so much better because the hard drive does not affect the speed of games and applications as the video card and processor do. Make sure to get an SATA hard drive.

Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse

It works.

Envision 17 inch CRT monitor

Again, good quality and it works.

Logitec 5.1 speakers (X-530)

It looked like you wanted surround sound. Hers a good set that will do the job for an inexpensive price.

This totaled to a $1003, a bit over your proposed 1000. If you really want to inhance your sound, you can go for a SB audigy (i got one and they are great!) or SB audigy 2 if you wanna spend the cash. I felt you spend too much cash in your original idea on the 2nd tier things when you should spend most of it on 3 or 4 essential parts (processor, motherboard, video card, possibly ram). Unless you got another few hundred bucks lyin around, i suggest holdin off on those raptor hard drives and expensive RAM, because as you see you can put that cash to very good use in other spots.
Good luck!

EDIT: hehe looks like some of you guys beat me to some of the ideas. I think i had all of the previous ones in my build so maybe this is what you guys are lookin for.

I really dont recomend the raidmax case. The build quality is decent but they left sharp edges that cut me up pretty bad.

The power supply in it is crap. Puts out nowhere near 420 watts. The power supply stopped my computer from running stable with it's dirty fluctuating voltages. Got a 420watt thermaltake and it's alot better.

one more question, would i want a video card with 256mb like the RADEON 9800? or is 256 a little much, i like playing massive shooters and stuff like joint ops and any fps, so whats the difference choosing a good video card is the hardest thing for me.

6600GT is better than 9800mb pro 256mb. The memory on it is DDR3, so it runs much better even though it is 1/2 as much of it. Search google for 9800pro vs 6600GT for a better idea of what im talking about.
Also, the 6600 GT is cheaper than the older 9800 pro so thats a bonus. I can pretty much guarentee you cant find a better value for 200bucks.

And DJ-CHRIS, your probably right. Heres another case that is cheap and should work well:
Rosewill ATX case w/ 400w PSU

This is one of the top 20 rated cases on newegg, so check the reviews and see what you think.
